Silver for Ticket Design at International Appliance Design Awards

“A harmonious melding of technology and industrial design” Appliance Design
Ticket Design was awarded Silver at the 20th International Appliance Design Excellence in Design Award 2007 (USA) for its advanced telematics vehicle tracking device. Competing in the electronics category, the product stood out among global entries, surpassing international competitors such as the Fujitsu Lifebook A6010 Notebook and the Globalstar GSP 1700 Satellite Phone. This marks the first time an Indian company has received this prestigious recognition.
Richard Babyak, editor of Appliance Design, wrote to Ticket Design founder Balkrishna Mahajan and his team: “The purpose of Appliance Design’s annual design competition is to honor those designers who have excelled in meeting the modern challenge of harmoniously melding technology and industrial design.”
The Advanced Telematics product was designed by Ticket Design (ID), while electronics design and manufacturing were handled by Tata Motors Ltd. The device, an advanced vehicle tracking system, was launched in Tata Motors’ Novus heavy-duty trucks.
An independent panel of three industrial design experts judged the entries based on four criteria: appearance, human factors, innovation, and technical merit. Last year, the Silver Award was won by Sony Ericsson for its W600 Walkman cell phone. Other notable winners include iPod Alarm Clock, KitchenAid, Bosch, Maytag, and Sharp.
The judges highlighted that winners demonstrated a serious commitment to industrial design, with attention to detail and innovative approaches that sharply differentiated their products. A common thread among the winning entries was the ability to make technology more accessible and user-friendly.
The telematics product has already been awarded the Business World – National Institute of Design (NID) Excellence in Design Award 2006.
