A Lunar Rover designed for Team Indus, India’s private space exploration company wins the Lexus Design Award India 2020. The jury selected it as an overall “Jury’s Choice” across all the projects. The product is a rover meant exploring for the lunar surface. This was initiated by Team Indus as a part of the $30M Google X Prize to spur affordable access to the moon and give space entrepreneurs a legitimate platform to develop long-term business models around lunar transportation and to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, space explorers and adventurers to enter the STEM fields. (STEM Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Team Indus was working on a design challenge for the rover was primarily creating a compact, lightweight device that could travel a distance of 500m on the moon and transmit HD videos back to earth. The lunar surface being very hostile with no air or atmosphere poses unique challenges.

Our design team worked closely with Team Indus to design the rover. This bold and audacious mission by first-time entrepreneurs has been a huge first step for setting up pace for private space exploration from India. This mission has already got Team Indus 1M USD landing prize amongst all participants globally. The rover is carrying various experiments on the lunar surface including experiments curated from school children. This project has been very unique for us making the journey itself is as significant as the destination. We wish Team Indus all the very best for a successful launch.
